Hermiston Teen Adventure Park Will Break Ground on June 6
The Hermiston Teen Adventure Park, a much-anticipated recreational area for older youths, will officially break ground on June 6 at 5:30 p.m. The park is expected to be complete and open to the public in the fall.
The Adventure Park will be built on S. 1st Street across from the Hermiston Police Department. It includes a 7,500-square-foot skatepark that was developed in coordination with the Parks & Recreation Department, local skaters, community stakeholders, and California Skateparks.
California Skateparks has designed, engineered, and constructed more than 500 skateparks around the world. Their planning team developed a design based on local requests and available space that includes a mix of street skating elements (curbs, rails, stairs and ledges) and transition features (bowls, quarter pipes and ramps).
“Our biggest priority was to create a park that offers something for all skill levels, from beginners to advanced skaters,” said Parks & Recreation Director Brandon Artz. “It will be a place where newcomers to the sport can learn and practice their skills, but will also be able to host regional contests, events, and classes.”
The skating surface will be built from concrete with metal edges that will reduce maintenance time and expense. The park’s construction is funded through 50% community-raised funds and 50% Land and Water Conservation Fund grant program funds administered through the Oregon Parks & Recreation Department.
A restroom, spectator seating area, drinking fountains and landscape improvements will all be part of the initial park build. A second phase will include a climbing rock, parkour elements, lighting, and a covered shelter.
